F1 Today: Bortoleto Earns Praise as Tsunoda Negotiates Exit

August 18, 2026

Gabriel Bortoleto resurfaced among the main talking points this Monday in Formula 1 after receiving praise from Allan McNish, while Yuki Tsunoda was connected to a potential move to IndyCar in 2027. The day also officially marked the start of the Dutch Grand Prix week, which ends the summer break and puts the championship back on track.

Tsunoda, on the other hand, may be closer than ever to exiting the F1 grid for good. According to information from Motorsport.com reproduced by F1MANIA.NET, the Japanese driver is negotiating a possible seat with Meyer Shank Racing for the 2027 IndyCar season. He is currently a reserve driver for Red Bull and the Racing Bulls, and appears as a candidate for the team’s car #66, although Mike Shank has stated that no decision has been made yet.

At Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton again showed confidence in contending for the title and spoke of “mobilizing the troops” to attack the second half of the season. The Brit arrives at the resumption as the world championship’s vice-leader, while the team itself already concedes that a potential prioritization of the driver could be discussed depending on how the battle unfolds.

Fernando Alonso also returned to criticize a key characteristic of the 2026 cars. The Spaniard called for changes to the algorithms responsible for the use of electrical energy, arguing that the current operation still needs improvement. Despite the critique, he expressed optimism about the changes planned for the coming years.

In Cadillac, Marcin Budkowski began outlining priorities after taking charge of the team. The new leader will face the challenge of organizing the structure and pursuing progress in an otherwise challenging season for the American project.

The main news for fans, however, is that the wait is nearly over. F1 returns this weekend for the Dutch Grand Prix, from August 21 to 23, at Zandvoort. The event opens the second half of the season and puts drivers like Kimi Antonelli, Hamilton, George Russell, and the other title contenders back into action.
