Laurent Mekies wants to maintain caution regarding the possibility of Max Verstappen’s title for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Red Bull chief stated that they will take it one race at a time without rushing into anything.
If the start of the championship was complicated for the Austrian team, the final stretch seems more competitive. In the last two races, in Italy and Azerbaijan, the Dutchman achieved dominant victories – in fact, it was the first time in 15 months that he had two consecutive wins.
As a result, many have already started pointing to the four-time champion as a contender for the F1 title this year. However, after the race in Baku, the team principal preferred to adopt a more cautious approach.
“We said a few races ago that we wanted to go race by race. We don’t want to leave any stone unturned when it comes to the 2025 season. We know it didn’t start as everyone wanted, but, in the end, everyone has worked very hard to, step by step, bring the car back to competitiveness”, he said.
“That’s how we will use the next races. It’s clear that the constructors’ championships are now open for second and third places”, he added.
