Aston Martin has embarked on a new chapter in its history with the official unveiling of the AMR26, its car for the 2026 Formula 1 season, on Monday (09), highlighting the sense of ‘freedom’ gained by the team with the switch from Mercedes to Honda as its engine supplier. The Silverstone-based team made the official presentation of its livery in Bahrain, in collaboration with title sponsor Aramco, marking the beginning of its partnership as a Honda factory team.
This change has been viewed as a significant milestone by Aston Martin’s management, which now, under the leadership of new team principal Adrian Newey, promises to open up new design and development opportunities. The team, owned by Lawrence Stroll, has described the AMR26 as a ‘clear statement of intent’, taking advantage of the design freedom provided by the engine supplier change.
Initial testing indicates that Aston Martin has managed to exploit this new freedom in a radical way, with the AMR26 being the most daring car among the ten teams that took part in private testing at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in late January. Although the team completed only a few laps during the event, just 65, the anticipation surrounding the car and its debut under Newey’s leadership is high.
Lance Stroll, who had a difficult week with only four laps completed, is aware of the importance of the new project, which seeks not only to return to the top of the grid but to achieve something even more ambitious: “The AMR26 is the result of a series of decisions made to create a competitive path to the highest level and, eventually, to win,” the team stated.
With Newey’s experience and the potential of the new car, Aston Martin aims for an even more competitive performance in the 2026 season, reinforcing its ambitions to become a dominant team in Formula 1.
