Gunther Steiner evaluated Lando Norris’s radio message offering assistance to Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Grand Prix and stated that the message was “cringe.”
Near the end of the race in Marina Bay, the 2025 champion spoke over the radio to McLaren, asking if they thought he should help his teammate to overtake Lewis Hamilton for fifth place. The gesture came one day after the duo collided during the Sprint, with Oscar retiring.
The team did not take up Norris’s offer, but Piastri did not need help to leave the Ferrari rival behind, as the seven-time champion’s pace was hampered by worn tires.

What happened, Steiner says, was nothing more than a ‘strange’ scene. “I need to explain this. I think they were sincere, but he exaggerated. I mean, they were sincere. They weren’t pretending, I must say,” he told the podcast The Red Flags.
“But he exaggerated. And I kept thinking: this is actually… what do the youngsters call it again? ‘Cringe’. That is ‘cringe’,” he added.
