Filip Salac clinched a victory in a frenetic British Grand Prix on Sunday, August 9, the twelfth round of the 2026 Moto2 season. The American Racing Team rider stayed among the front-runners who battled for the win across the 17 laps at Silverstone, but he only seized the lead on the final lap, fending off late attacks from Iván Ortolá and securing his first World Championship win.
The runner-up spot went to Ortolá, the MSI rider who led for portions of the race and finished just a hair behind Salac. Alex Escrig, racing for KLINT, completed the podium in third after joining the group that contested the victory in the closing laps. Daniel Holgado, another rider who had led the race at one point, finished fourth for Aspar, while Izán Guevara, who had been at the front for much of the event, ended the race in fifth with Pramac.
Alonso López, aboard a Gresini bike, finished sixth, just ahead of David Muñoz, seventh for Italtrans. Deniz Oncu crossed the line eighth after making up 13 positions during the race with Marc VDS. Barry Baltus, representing Fantic Racing, took ninth place, while Sérgio García of Gresini completed the top ten.
The race featured a notable moment. Manuel González, the championship leader, took the final lap in first place but slowed down and stood up from the Intact GP prepared bike as if celebrating a victory; Holgado struck the Spaniard’s bike, causing him to lose momentum and, after returning to full speed, he crossed the finish line only in fourteenth.
There were a number of crashes. At the start, Collin Veijer went down and retired. Aron Canet followed suit with a fall a short time later while he was struggling in the race. With four laps remaining, Tony Arbolino — who had been enjoying a strong outing and was fighting for victory — crashed while challenging for the lead with Daniel Holgado, bringing his race to an end.
Moto2 resumes the 2026 season on August 30, with the Aragón Grand Prix to be held in Spain.
