F2: Rafael Câmara Secures Pole Position with Flying Lap in Monaco

June 5, 2026

Rafael Câmara, the driver defending Invicta Racing, on Friday the 5th clinched his first pole position in Formula 2. The top spot was earned on the street circuit laid out in Monte Carlo, in Monaco, which hosts the fourth round of the 2026 season. In a qualifying session among the tightest of the year, with drivers divided into groups, the Brazilian posted a best lap of 1:20.923 and was not surpassed by any rivals.

The session was dramatic for the current Formula 3 champion, who after a brush with the guardrail had to take the car to the pits for adjustments. After the repairs, Câmara returned to the track and, on his final fast lap, moved to the top of his group’s order. With no other rival beating his time in the group that closed the session, the Brazilian celebrated pole position on the 3.337-kilometer circuit.

“On the first lap I tried to gauge how the track’s grip was. But we managed to stay calm and ensure that I would give my all on the final lap. I was also lucky, as we were able to complete another lap and the tires were ready for one last attempt. We had a good lap,” commented Rafael Câmara, shortly after qualifying.

“I didn’t expect to secure pole. Of course, I was trying to do my best at that moment, trying to maximize every corner without thinking too much about where we would be. And the car was perfect,” the Brazilian, who is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and the only one to crack the 1:20 mark, added.

The Formula 2 schedule includes the Sprint race on Saturday the 5th, starting at 9:15 a.m. The main race will take place on Sunday at 4:25 a.m. Sportv, Globoplay and F1TV will broadcast both races.
