The 2025 season of the NASCAR Brasil Series for the Campeonato Brasileiro has reached its most critical and decisive phase. The upcoming Match Point event, scheduled for August 24th at the Velocitta race track in Mogi Guaçu, São Paulo, will determine the overall champion of the season in a highly competitive and unpredictable setting. With 75 points in contention—distributed across the pole position and the two races held during the weekend—ten drivers remain in the fight for the coveted title.
Throughout the competition, an unmistakable hallmark has been the intense level of parity among participants. Different drivers have taken turns leading the championship standings across the five rounds already completed, highlighting the strong level of competitiveness among various teams and manufacturers. Teams such as Full Time, RMattheis, Team RC, and VX Vogel have all played starring roles, whether with Ford Mustangs or Chevrolet Camaros, often taking the winners’ spotlight.
Leading the pack is Rubens Barrichello, who currently has 135 points. The veteran driver races the Ford Mustang #91 for Full Time and expresses his satisfaction with his performance this season. “Above all, I am very grateful to be competing for the championship. If someone had told me years ago, ‘You will be 53 years old and still highly competitive,’ I would have found it hard to believe,” he said.
“I am extremely happy to be in the fight for the title. I’ve adapted very well to the category and I truly feel connected. I entered this season with an open mind and humility. It’s not about trying something new as a former Formula 1 driver; it’s about starting fresh,” Barrichello added.
Regarding the racing style, Barrichello emphasizes the difficulty of racing in tightly packed groups: “Because the cars run so close together, you need to take risks when overtaking and know how to handle that situation. It’s a very intense race, but also very fun,” he assured.
When asked about his chances of winning the championship, his response is straightforward: “I never talk about what will happen before it happens. Success in life comes through hard work. There’s no such thing as ‘winning the title,’ you have to go out there and earn it.”
The runner-up in the standings is Galid Osman, driving the Chevrolet Camaro #99 for Team RC. With just one point behind Barrichello, Osman already has a clear plan: “To score as many points as possible and keep my main rivals in check. It’s going to be very interesting. Reaching the final of the championship with real chances of winning in my debut year is a feeling of gratitude. I believe I am in the best shape of my career,” says Osman.
Thiago Camilo, also representing Full Time aboard his Ford Mustang #21, is another strong contender. “There’s nothing different for me to do now than what we’ve already been doing. We need to give our best in the weeks leading up to the race and stay prepared. Perhaps because of his experience and current leadership, Rubens has a slight advantage. He is very experienced and makes fewer mistakes,” Camilo noted.
The upcoming race promises to be an electrifying culmination to a highly competitive season, with top drivers eager to claim the championship and etch their names in the history of the NASCAR Brasil Series.
