MotoGP: Marquez Exploits Martin’s Mistake to Win Sprint in Indonesia

October 10, 2026

Marc Márquez won this Saturday (the 10th) the sprint race at the Indonesian Grand Prix, the 17th round of the 2026 MotoGP season. The Aprilia rider spent most of the Mandalika circuit in second place, but saw Jorge Martín, also on an Aprilia, commit a mistake and move into the lead, paving the way for Márquez to take the top spot and triumph in the weekend’s short race.

Second place went to Ai Ogura, the Trackhouse Aprilia rider who also capitalized on Martín’s error, this on the penultimate of the 13 laps, to advance to that podium position. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium with third place aboard a VR46 Ducati. Martín crossed the finish line in fourth, while Álex Márquez, riding a Gresini Ducati, finished fifth.

Francesco Bagnaia, on a Ducati, was eighth, with Fabio Quartararo on a Yamaha closing the points with ninth. Álex Rins, on a Yamaha, was tenth, and Diogo Moreira, on an LCR Honda, finished 17th.

The main Indonesian Grand Prix race will be held on Sunday, starting at 4:00 local time.

The Mandalika race began with Jorge Martín taking the lead, followed by Marc Márquez and Ai Ogura, while Diogo Moreira advanced nine positions to take 12th. At the first corner Marco Bezzecchi, who had started from second, clipped Raúl Fernández’s bike, the pole sitter, and the two crashed out, abandoning the race.

Ogura gradually began to pull away at the front, extending the lead to more than a second by the fourth lap. Márquez, in second, also opened a gap to Ogura, who was third and under heavy pressure from Fabio Di Giannantonio. Pedro Acosta completed the top five, while Moreira remained 12th.

While Ogura sought to reduce the gap to Márquez, Moreira lost three positions on lap seven, dropping to 15th. One lap later, the Brazilian was overtaken by Johann Zarco, his LCR teammate. With five laps to the end, Martín made a mistake and Márquez took the race lead.

Acosta was penalized with a long lap for not respecting track limits. Martín, on the other hand, closed in on Márquez to duel for the lead. On the penultimate lap, the standings showed the top four close. Martín, however, made another error and was overtaken by Ogura and Di Giannantonio, dropping to fourth.

Márquez kept the advantage he had over Ogura and won, followed by the Japanese rider and by Di Giannantonio. Martín finished fourth and Moreira seventeenth.
