Álex Márquez was the fastest rider in the opening free practice for the British Grand Prix, the 12th round of the 2026 MotoGP season. In the session that kicked off the weekend’s activities on Friday (7) at the Silverstone circuit, the Gresini Ducati rider logged a best lap of 1:58.692, and was not surpassed by his rivals.
Second place went to Marco Bezzecchi, the Aprilia rider who ended up 0.173 seconds behind Álex. Pedro Acosta, from KTM, finished third, followed by Raúl Fernández in fourth aboard a Trackhouse Aprilia. The top five also included Fabio Di Giannantonio in fifth on a VR46 Ducati.

Marc Márquez, on a Ducati, finished the session with the sixth-best time, followed by Ai Ogura, the vice-leader of the championship and seventh on a Trackhouse Aprilia. The MotoGP leader, Jorge Martín, also with Aprilia, was the eighth fastest, followed by Franco Morbidelli, ninth on a VR46 Ducati. Francesco Bagnaia, on a Ducati, was tenth, and Diogo Moreira finished 19th on the LCR Honda.
The MotoGP schedule at Silverstone will resume on Friday from noon, with the session that will decide the ten riders directly qualified for Q2. The British Grand Prix will be contested on Sunday, starting at 9:00 a.m.
