The Japanese driver Hiyu Yamakoshi took pole position for the main race of the fourth round of the 2026 Formula 3 season on Friday morning (26). In the final phase of qualifying at the Red Bull Ring, the racing circuit in Austria, the Van Amersfoort driver clocked his best lap at 1:21.730, earning the top starting spot for Sunday’s race.
The runner-up was the championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu, Campos Racing driver who was edged by 0.015 seconds by Yamakoshi. Tuukka Taponen, driving for MP Motorsport, was third fastest in the classification, while Noah Stromsted, the quickest in the free practice, will start fourth with Trident. Freddie Slater, from Trident, and Alessandro Giusti, from MP Motorsport, complete the top six.
Taito Kato, the ART Grand Prix driver, finished seventh in the standings, while Kanato Le, also with ART, was eighth. Jin Nakamura, from Hitech, posted the ninth-best time, while Pedro Clerot, from Rodin Motorsport, starts tenth. Ernesto Rivera, from Campos Racing, and James Wharton, from Prema, round out the top 12, with the Australian leading the Sprint. Fernando Barrichello starts from 28th with AIX Racing.
The Formula 3 schedule at the Red Bull Ring will resume on Saturday (27), starting at 05:05 with the Sprint. The main race of the Austrian round will be held on Sunday, with the start at 03:40.
