George Russell spoke about the recent phase of the 2026 Formula 1 season and admitted how the difficulties in the latest races had “tested him mentally” before returning to the top of the podium.
At the Austrian Grand Prix this Sunday (the 28th), the Mercedes driver secured his second win of the championship, reclaiming the runner-up spot and narrowing a bit his gap to leader Kimi Antonelli.

The British driver had endured a run of misfortunes recently and, after Monaco, was 68 points behind the Italian. Therefore, Russell spoke of a recent mental test in F1. “Difficult races certainly test us psychologically,” Russell said. Those last two weekends were crucial in reminding me that I am capable, he said.
“Qualifying performance and race pace were very strong this weekend, and on a track that probably doesn’t suit my style very well. For that reason, I am looking forward to going to Silverstone next week and seeing the home crowd; I’m sure it will be amazing,” he continued.
