Racing Bulls has already begun signaling the path it intends to follow for the 2027 Formula 1 season. According to GPblog, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are the favorites to remain as the team’s lineup for next year.
This decision matters because the team has three strong candidates for only two seats. In addition to Lawson and Lindblad, Nikola Tsolov, the current Formula 2 championship leader, has been pressing for an opportunity in the category.
Peter Bayer, CEO of Racing Bulls, highlighted the performance of the three drivers and said he did not see a problem with the internal competition: “Arvid and Liam are doing a fantastic job. I believe Liam is currently ninth in the drivers’ championship and has shown a lot of speed in both qualifying sessions and races. The same goes for Nikola, who is performing extremely well in Formula 2,” the Austrian stated.
Tsolov will this week have his first test with a Formula 1 car, during an activity with a car from a previous season in Imola. The evaluation will be important for the team to closely monitor the Bulgarian driver’s development stage, although Bayer has made clear that the decision on the two-driver lineup still lies with team principal Alan Permane.
“Ultimately, the lineup of drivers for next year is a decision that Alan needs to make. So, he will do whatever is best for the team,” he added.
For Tsolov, the most likely path at this moment would be to assume the role of test and reserve driver at Racing Bulls in 2027. According to the latest information, the team would be more inclined to keep Lawson and Lindblad as its first-choice duo for the next season, while an opportunity in a TL1 session later this year is also considered likely after the Bulgarian meets the necessary requirements.
