F1: Norris Reaffirms Commitment to McLaren: ‘They’re My Family’

July 2, 2026

Lando Norris does not plan to leave McLaren in Formula 1 in the medium-term future. The competitor highlighted how he feels like family within the Austrian team.

The champion of the 2025 season made his debut with the squad back in 2019 alongside Carlos Sainz. Besides a title and numerous victories, he became the driver with the most starts for McLaren with 159 Grands Prix contested to date.

Then, at the start of the England Grand Prix weekend, his home race in F1, Norris said there would be only one team he would leave McLaren for, but that would be a very distant future. “If there is somewhere I want to go, there’s only one that would really interest me. But this is something for a very distant future. For now, I am fully committed to McLaren; it’s the only team I want to be with,” he said.

“I feel that they are my family. I want to do as much as possible with McLaren for as long as possible — five years, ten years. And I’m very proud and happy to be able to say that, something that few drivers in the history of F1 could claim. For me, the goal is to stay with McLaren forever, but I also love winning. So, until that moment comes, you never know.”
