F1: Mekies praises Hadjar’s solid performance and signals 2027 renewal

July 27, 2026

Laurent Mekies offered indications about Red Bull’s prospects for the 2027 Formula 1 season and suggested that the team should retain Isack Hadjar for another year alongside Max Verstappen.

The Frenchman joined the outfit this year, becoming the latest teammate of the four-time champion after others failed to keep pace in the past. So far he has shown pace and in Hungary, he finished seventh for the seventh consecutive time inside the top six.

Therefore, Hadjar has impressed within Red Bull and his future in F1 could be secured. “It is good news to have a second strong driver for the first time in a long while. That was also one of our objectives before this season. Isack is delivering a solid performance and has learned a lot from the team and from Max,” Mekies told De Telegraaf.

Although Isack’s renewal is not yet confirmed for 2027, the executive suggested that this would be the path taken by the Austrian team. “It is good news, indeed for Max, that our two cars are a bit closer in terms of performance. We haven’t discussed the future yet, but everyone can see that Isack is doing an excellent job. Therefore, we will make a logical decision,” he concluded.
