F1 2026: Andy Cowell Reveals New Role and Highlights Technical Integration Focus for Upcoming Season

November 26, 2025

Andy Cowell commented on the change of role within Aston Martin and stated that his new function as strategy director represents the ideal moment to directly influence the technical integration that will guide the team in the 2026 Formula 1 season. After leading the team for the last 14 months as CEO and team principal, he said that the transition occurs naturally after completing the necessary structural phase to transform Aston Martin into a true factory team.

Cowell highlighted that his experience in developing power units places him as a key piece in optimizing the technical partnership between the team, Honda, Aramco, and Valvoline. According to him, the preparation for the arrival of the new power unit, fuel, and chassis package requires high-level coordination, and this will be his primary mission at Aston Martin from now on.

“After implementing essential structural changes for the transition to a factory team and building the foundations for Adrian and the entire organization, this is an appropriate time to take on a different role as strategy director,” Cowell stated. He emphasized that his work will ensure the perfect integration of all technical elements of the new regulation. “In this position, I will help optimize the technical partnership between the team, Honda, Aramco, and Valvoline and ensure the best possible integration of the new power unit, fuel, and chassis.”

Cowell also pointed out that the 2026 regulation project represents one of the biggest challenges in recent Formula 1 history. Therefore, the team sought a clear division of responsibilities, favoring the best use of individual leadership skills. He stated that the new phase will be crucial to allow the team to advance consistently in car development and take advantage of opportunities created by the technical package change.

With the reorganization, Cowell will report directly to Lawrence Stroll, the team’s executive chairman. Aston Martin reinforced in the announcement that the redistribution of functions between Cowell and Newey was designed to maximize internal efficiency and ensure that the team is prepared to face the new era of F1. For Cowell, the plan is clear and strategic, and his new role will have a direct impact on the team’s competitiveness in the medium and long term.
