Morelli Leads Moto3 Friday Practice in Japan

Marco Morelli was the fastest rider in the practice session that determined the direct-qualification spots for Q2, the session that will decide the starting grid for the Moto3 Japanese Grand Prix. In the overnight session held in the early hours of Friday the 2nd at the Motegi circuit, the Aspar rider clocked his best lap at 1:55.280.

The second place went to Ryusei Yamanaka, MSI rider, who was edged out by only 0.016 seconds. Brian Uriarte, on an Ajo bike, was the third fastest, followed by his teammate Álvaro Carpe. The group of the five best at Motegi also included Valentín Perrone, rider for Tech3.

Leading the championship and riding his first “match point,” Máximo Quiles posted the sixth-fastest time on the Aspar bike, followed by David Muñoz in seventh aboard the Intact GP. Veda Pratama, on a Team Asia motorcycle, finished the session in eighth place, ahead of Matteo Bertelle, ninth on an MTA bike, with David Almansa of Intact GP completing the top ten.

The list of riders who advance directly to the pole-position fight for the Japanese round of the Moto3 world championship will also include four other competitors: Adrian Fernández on a Leopard Racing bike, Joel Esteban for MTA, Joel Kelso for GRYD Racing, and Adrian Cruces for CIP.

The final free practice of the weekend is scheduled for 20:40 local time, while the classification will take place at 00:45 on Saturday. The Moto3 Japanese Grand Prix is also set for Saturday, at 23:00.
