Lewis Hamilton used media day this Thursday (1) during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend in Malaysia’s Formula 1 season to come to Fred Vasseur’s defense, reinforcing that he is a “fantastic leader” for Ferrari.
The French executive has been the target of pressure and rumors of a possible replacement due to the team’s difficult phase. Christian Horner has been one of the most talked-about names to take the helm of the Italian squad.
But despite all the external noise, the seven-time F1 champion highlighted Vasseur’s solid work. “Here, there often seems to be a strong focus on a single individual in a given role. It’s clear that many different people have already changed in the role Fred occupies. But Fred is a fantastic leader,” he said.

“He is really the right person to lead this team in the right direction. However, there is a structure that has been in place for quite some time. Whether that needs to be reevaluated going forward… there are also people above Fred, and the issue isn’t limited to a single person,” he added.
“Fred led the team, helped implement changes over the past year and helped us reach second place in the Constructors’ Championship. That represents a major step forward compared to last year,” he concluded.
