Audi arrives at the Bahrain Grand Prix, in Sepang, with the aim of better understanding the potential of the new package introduced at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. After coming close to points in Baku, the team believes that the Malaysian circuit could offer a clearer opportunity to assess the gains from the updates and pursue a better result over the weekend.
For Allan McNish, the team’s Sporting Director, the Bahrain Grand Prix, held in Sepang, will be an important opportunity to understand how the R26 behaves on a more traditional circuit:
“Sepang will represent a completely new challenge for us as a team, and it will be interesting to see how the weekend unfolds. Baku was another step in our growth journey: we came close to scoring and saw another strong operational display, with quick pit stops and solid teamwork. We are all eager to see how our package will perform in a more traditional track layout, which should more accurately demonstrate the benefit of our updates. We feel that this circuit should suit us more, so the goal is to position ourselves in a stronger place and fight for points after having just missed them last weekend.”
With Sepang presenting characteristics different from those found in Baku, Audi will have another chance to evaluate the progress of the R26. The team’s expectation is to translate the work done in the last rounds into enough performance to finally enter the fight for points.
