Londrina put tire wear at the center of attention during Stage 6 of the 2026 NASCAR Brasil season. On one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar, the degradation was one of the main challenges faced by drivers and teams throughout the weekend and also sparked an important reflection for the series as it plans for the future.
Thiago Camilo had already warned after qualifying: the track was extremely abrasive and tire consumption was high. The scenario proved true in the races, especially in the Sprint Race, whose dynamic was limited by the need to preserve the equipment.
It’s a point that demands attention, especially because the Sprint Race exists precisely to add an extra showdown to the weekend. When concerns about the tires grow too large, there is less room for what NASCAR Brasil does best—the high level of competition.
At the same time, Londrina showed that the problem can also be an opportunity. Race 2 was the best demonstration of this. Gabriel Casagrande, Thiago Camilo, and Arthur Gama arrived at the final laps separated by mere tenths of a second and shuffled positions until the victory was decided almost at the checkered flag.
Therefore, tire wear could be one of the interesting points for the category to study as it looks toward 2027. Not necessarily to eliminate the challenge, but to find a way to transform it into yet another strategic tool.
One possibility would be to run two or more tire compounds over the weekend. Another would be to reserve a dedicated set for the Sprint Race in very hot races. These options could give drivers more freedom to attack and, consequently, broaden the chances of on-track battles.
Londrina also gave NASCAR Brasil ample reasons to look at the season’s closing stages with optimism. Gabriel Casagrande left the event as the new championship leader after clinching a significant victory, while Thiago Camilo reaffirmed his form with a win and a second place.
In the end, the Paraná round served almost as a test for the future. The track revealed its limits, the drivers proved they can still produce gripping battles when they have room to attack, and the series gained another datapoint to consider as it contemplates making its events ever more competitive.
If 2026 taught us that tires can take center stage, 2027 could be the opportunity to ensure they also play a part in an even bigger show.
