F1: Norris Celebrates Pole Position in the Netherlands, Surprised It Can’t Get Any Better

August 22, 2026

Lando Norris will start from pole position at the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix, after qualifying held this Saturday (22). The McLaren driver celebrated the result and admitted he was surprised by the positive outcome.

In the earlier Sprint race, the competitor started from second place, but in the final stretch he was overtaken by Charles Leclerc and finished third. While satisfied, he admitted it wasn’t the ideal result.

Now, in the qualifying at Zandvoort, the current F1 champion finished much happier. “There isn’t much more we can improve; honestly, I’m a little surprised. It was a very good lap; I was pushing the pace, as you could see, the competition is tight and every hundredth can make a difference,” he said.

“It was a good recovery from the start, when I felt we were dealing with a bit of difficulty,” he continued.

“We needed to try something different, since what we had before wasn’t enough; so, we made some small adjustments to give me more confidence,” he added.
