Racing Bulls is gaining momentum in the 2026 Formula One season, and Liam Lawson believes that a team trait could prove decisive in the battle against Alpine. The New Zealander highlighted the consistent performance in qualifying sessions as one of the team’s key positives.
This fight for the position of best team behind the four main forces on the grid promises to be intense throughout the season. Currently, Alpine sits in fifth place, while Racing Bulls trails by sixteen points, and remains firmly in the mix.
Lawson has been one of the team’s standout performers this season. The driver has scored points in the last three races and in five of the seven rounds run so far, a performance that places him tenth in the drivers’ standings.
Moreover, rookie Arvid Lindblad is also enjoying a positive spell. The young competitor scored points in the last two races, helping the Faenza-based team close the gap to its French rival in the standings.
One of Racing Bulls’ main trump cards has been their performance in qualifying sessions. Lawson has been achieving frequent runs into Q3, although the team still faces difficulties converting that potential into consistent pace during the races.
This scenario was evident at the Barcelona Grand Prix, where the New Zealander finished eighth. Despite the positive result, he acknowledged that there is still work to be done to improve the car’s behavior in race conditions.
Commenting on the moment the team is going through, Lawson stressed the importance of maintaining consistency throughout the season: “For us it’s good. The season is long and we still have many races ahead. Alpine has had good runs recently and scored solid points,” he said.
The driver also reinforced confidence in the performance shown in qualifying: “If we can keep this trend going, obviously we had a fast car in qualifying. I hope that translates to the rest of the season. I think Barcelona is usually a good indicator of this, so we just need to resolve the car’s performance in the races,” he added.
