Second in the Formula 2 championship, Rafael Câmara was one of the standout performers in the qualifying session that defined the starting grid for the season’s third round, held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada. On Friday (22), the Invicta Racing driver posted the second-fastest time just after the clock hit zero, securing a spot on the front row for Sunday’s race.
The driver, who is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, led the majority of the session this afternoon, and after watching Invicta work on the car in the final moments of the session that defined the starting positions, Câmara returned to the track and secured a place on the front row. The Brazilian is also the driver who starts the furthest forward among the top-3 in the standings.
“It’s a good start. This is a track that isn’t easy, with many bumps. Especially in free practice, we were surprised, even after doing work in the simulator. During the session we had to change the car’s setup and figure out what to do for qualifying to start on the right foot. The start was solid, and then I had a touch with the wall, but the team did a superb job fixing everything and we managed to put in a good lap to start from the front on Sunday,” Rafael Câmara said, right after qualifying.
Champion of Formula 3 in 2025, Câmara is in his first season in the top tier of the feeder series to Formula 1. At this early stage of his career, the Brazilian competed in two double-header rounds, reaching the podium in two races, both in the feature events. In this way, Câmara stands with 34 points, one less than the championship leader.
The races comprising the Canadian round of Formula 2 will take place beginning this Saturday (23), first with the Sprint, scheduled for 15h10. The main event is planned for Sunday at 13h05. Sportv, Globoplay and F1TV will broadcast the double-header live.
