Antonelli Could Match Hamilton’s Feat and End Italy’s Drought at the Monaco Grand Prix

June 4, 2026

The upcoming leg of the Formula 1 season in Monaco could place Kimi Antonelli alongside Lewis Hamilton in an important Mercedes statistic. If he wins in the principality, the Italian driver will reach his fifth consecutive victory, matching a feat achieved by the seven-time world champion on two occasions.

Hamilton racked up streaks of five consecutive wins in the 2014 and 2020 seasons, years when he claimed, respectively, his second and seventh world titles. Now Antonelli is just one result away from matching the British driver’s personal record with the German team. The young Italian is enjoying a dominant spell in the championship. He won races in China, Japan, Miami and Canada, building a 43-point lead over George Russell in the standings.

The gap to his teammate widened after the Canadian round. Russell led the race when he had to retire due to an engine failure, allowing Antonelli to widen his advantage in Mercedes’ internal duel.

Besides the feat tied to Hamilton, a Monaco victory would also hold special meaning for Italian motorsport. The last Italian to win on the streets of the Principality was Jarno Trulli in 2004.

The Monaco Grand Prix takes place from June 5 to 7, with live coverage from F1MANIA.NET.
