F1: Man Accused of Raping Schumacher’s Nurse on Trial

June 2, 2026

A man accused of raping a former nurse from Michael Schumacher’s family testified on Tuesday at the District Court of Nyon, Switzerland. Joey Mawson denied the charges and stated that the relationship was consensual.

The case relates to an incident that allegedly occurred in November 2019 at the Schumacher family residence in Gland. According to the prosecution, the healthcare professional participated in a staff gathering when she consumed alcohol, became ill, and needed to be taken to a bedroom by colleagues.

According to the prosecutors, the nurse woke up afterwards not remembering what had happened during the night. The accusation contends that she was assaulted while unconscious. During the hearing, prosecutor Xavier Christe highlighted inconsistencies between Mawson’s statements given during the investigation and his testimony in court, and questioned his ability to recall specific details after admitting heavy alcohol consumption.

Mawson rejected the charges and said that the nurse showed interest and invited him into her room. According to the Australian racing driver, she remained conscious throughout the encounter. He also stated that he stayed on site until dawn to prevent other staff from discovering the encounter.

The defense argues that videos submitted to the court reinforce this version of events, even though the material was not shown during the hearing. Mawson also confirmed having sent apologies to the nurse after learning of the accusations, but said that this did not amount to an admission of guilt. The complaint was filed in 2022 and drew greater public attention in 2025. The Schumacher family does not take part in the case, and none of its members have been called as witnesses. The court is expected to conclude its review after the hearings scheduled for this week.
