WRC online revolution to begin with new computer rally game
Neil Duncanson, chairman of International Sportsworld Communicators, has stated to the the timesonline that ISC is currently looking at developing an online computer game that enables people to compete against WRC drivers live during events.
ISC is in discussion with a number of gaming companies about developing such a game. Duncunson believes that the technology and data available to ISC at the minute will help create a game which can be played in real time.
ISC chairman Neil Duncanson commented to timesonline:
This is the holy grail for us.
In a rally there are gaps and so a fan could compete, driving a real rally car in real time in a real event like the Wales Rally GB. Then we would have a separate championship online. This could be huge."
Duncunson added:
We are now trying to appoint a global promoter and corralling everyone to a common purpose that's for the greater good of the championship.
That is not easy.”
The last game to feature the world championship was Sony's WRC Rally Evolved
ISC has invested €20million in satellite tracking and improving technology since buying the WRC rights from Bernie Ecclestone in 2000. But with the economic downturn now facing the sport Duncanson sees the game as a way of harnessing the sport's future.
ISC had previously developed a WRC computer game with Sony for the PlayStation in a series which started in 2001 and ran until 2006.

David Richards was talking about this in 2001, I guess the tech had to catch up, now it looks like the money will have to as well.
