World Motor Sport Council decisions following WRC Commission meeting
Following the last two days of meetings, at the Place de la Concorde, by the WRC Commission, the FIA issued a press release following the WMSC decisions today.
The decisions are expected to be ratified fully, when the WMSC convenes again at it's next quaterly meeting, as have been agreed in principle today.
WMSC-decisions
WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
The WMSC has directed the FIA to finalise negotiations for the appointment of a central promoter for the World Rally Championship.
From 2010, Group N and S2000 cars will be renamed Superproduction cars. Group R cars will become known as Production cars.
The Cyprus Rally and Rally Poland have been approved for the 2009 calendar following the observers’ reports.
These measures appear to have appeased the manufacturers, who feel that the two key issues are being addressed, ie: a global promoter for the WRC and the new technical regulations.
It is believed that the promoter is likely to be North One, who own ISC, and they should be in place by the Autumn following the next WMSC meeting. The technical regulations that will be adopted appear to be what the teams wanted. The WRCar from 2010 will consist of an added on kit to S2000 and Group N cars. The categories will then be renamed, to make it simpler for the general public to understand.
The categories will be named, as was thought before, WRC, Super Production and Production.
How the new categories will be made up:
WRC will be Super Production plus a kit.
Super Production will be S2000 and GpN.
Production will be 2wd GpN/GpR cars.
