Wilson overwhelmed by response to OBE
Malcolm Wilson has admitted that he has been overwhelmed with the response to the news that he has been awarded an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The M-Sport managing director, who was leading the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team to victory at the Acropolis Rally of Greece when the announcement was made last week, has received hundreds of messages congratulating him on his achievement since returning to the UK.
Letters have flooded into the M-Sport offices at Dovenby Hall wishing the former British Rally Champion well after it was announced that he had been given the honour for services to British motorsport.
Congratulatory messages have come in from all over the world including Australia, the USA and right across Europe underlining the magnitude of the accomplishment. Wilson has also received a letter from Workington MP Tony Cunningham expressing his pride at the local man’s accolade.
The Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) is awarded for distinguished regional or country-wide roles in any field through achievement or service to the community. He will receive his OBE in a ceremony later this year.
Wilson, who is preparing for the latest round of the FIA World Rally Championship in Poland next week, is keen to thank all those who have been in touch for their kind messages.
M-Sport managing director Malcolm Wilson OBE said:
“I would like to thank everyone who has sent me kind words of congratulations on being awarded an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List. I have been overwhelmed by the amount of cards, letters, emails and text messages that I have received and the support really does me a lot to me.”
