Guy Wilks has vowed to bounce back after his early exit from the Belgium Ypres Rally.
Double British champion Wilks and co-driver Phil Pugh were running 11th on their IRC debut in the factory-backed Proton Satria Super 2000.
Double British champion Wilks and co-driver Phil Pugh were running 11th on their IRC debut in the factory-backed Proton Satria Super 2000.
But on the last corner of stage five, the 26km Hollebeke 2 test, they understeered into a ditch and hit a lump of concrete trying to get back on the road.
The impact broke the track control arm and despite limping to the end of the stage and making emergency roadside repairs in the darkness, it was considered too risky to attempt Friday's final stage.
Wilks told guywilks.com:
I'm disappointed. The whole team is. The Proton had been really well received by the IRC fans and they were brilliant helping us to get back on the road.We managed to make running repairs at the end of the stage but it was just too dangerous to carry on.
I am already thinking ahead to Rally Russia. We always knew it was going to be difficult against the more experienced teams here. But we know what we have got to do and given time and testing, we'll be right up there.
