Guy Wilks took the opening stage (Achray) of the second day on the inaugural RAC MSA Rally of Scotland.
The Skoda UK pilot took 3.3 seconds out of Kris Meeke's lead to reduce the gap to 17.9 seconds with five stages left to run.
Meeke was happy enough at the end of the stage, reporting no problems with his Peugeot UK-backed 207 S2000.
Alister McRae was third fastest to consolidate his third position overall in the Proton Satria Neo S2000 and lies over a minute-and-a-half behind the leaders.
Ulsterman Jonny Greer, in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, moved up to fourth place after a superb time, to move himself ahead of David Bogie's similar Evo.
Alastair Fisher, Daniel Siguroarson, Keith Cronin, Adam Gould, Tim Stebani and Dave Weston Jr did not restart under Super Rally rules today.
