Weston heads home for tough tarmac test

Aberdeen based Dave Weston Junior, arguably one of the youngest drivers in the 2009 MSA British Rally Championship, is relishing the opportunity to tackle this weekends high speed Jim Clark International Rally, the first time that the 18 year old MSA British Rally Academy member will tackle a tarmac round of the British Rally Championship!

Dave, who is backed by both Coltel Communications and William Whyte Cargo Handlers, has impressed on the opening two rounds of the 2009 championship, with a string of top ten times and two top six finishes that see the young rookie lying fifth in the championship standings as the series heads to tarmac for the next three rounds.

Whilst his background includes two seasons in rallycross, which is a multi surface discipline, young Weston Junior had never rallied on tarmac before and prepared for the Dun’s based Jim Clark Rally by contesting the recent Welsh International Rally over the Epynt Military Ranges.

I am really looking forward to the tarmac rallies that are coming up. Rallying on closed public roads is alien to me and the idea of high speed driving on tarmac is quite exciting! I really enjoyed Epynt, as it was the first time on tarmac, and the first time I’ve ever written my own notes!

I have no idea of where I will be, as far as pace goes, but as this year is all about learning the events I just want to keep my nose clean and gain as much experience as I can.

Dave’s father, Dave Weston Senior, has won the national section of this rally before but will not be offering advice, preferring to let his son discuss tactics with double British Rally Champion, and mentor, Guy Wilks instead.
