Key VW Motorsport figures at Rallye Deutschland while Citroen employees sighted at latest DTM race at Nurburgring

Posted by Scott Coursey 19 August, 2008

Senior Volkswagen personnel were present at Rally Germany last weekend as reported by rallye-magazin.de. Michel Bernard and Uwe Balds, two senior figures from the VW Motorsport department, were present. Uwe Balds is responsible for press activities at VW Motorsport.

This visit adds further speculation that VW will commit to a WRC programme, incorporating the new regs, after VW motorsports boss Kris Nissen visited Rally Finland earlier in the month.

Michel Bernard, who is a regulations expert for the VW Dakar project, stated to rallye-magazine:

I am here in my role to understand the sport of rallying."

Meanwhile, Citroen personnel were spotted at Nurburgring for the latest DTM race and a rumour circulated that a senior member of the PSA group was there to give a commitment from Citroen to join the DTM. Olivier Quesnel stated he had no knowledge of this, but did add that he could see Citroen in both the DTM and WRC from 2010 onwards.

Could Citroen manage two high profile motorsport campaigns from 2010?
