Vouilloz wins thrilling Madeira to take lead in IRC and record the closest ever finish in the series

Vouilloz (207) claimed victory by just 5.4s from Basso (Punto). Vouilloz, however, drove a consistent rally and didn't score many fastest times compared to his persuers. It was tyre choice which ulimately came to Vouilloz's advantage. Basso made an incorrect choice on day one losing 30s and despite setting 6 fastest stage times on day 2 out of a possible 8, it wasn't enough. Basso, though, grabbed second at the death on the last stage as he overhauled local ace Camacho (207). Camacho had pushed Vouilloz throughout the event and was unlucky to end up 3rd.
Travaglia was fourth to give Abarth some hope this season as this has been the closest to Peugeot and most consistent they have been all season. Rossetti (207)held Loix (207) for fifth and while he loses the IRC lead he continues to stay ahead in the ERC.
Early pacesetter, Maghlaes (207), ended up 8th as couldn't make up the three mins he lost on SS12 due to a puncture.
