FIA President candidate Ari Vatanen would like to see the Safari Rally return to the World Rally Championship calendar and promises he will work towards that goal if elected in Paris on 23 October.
Commenting at a press conference in Uganda, Vatanen said: "I am not promising anything now but I will work towards having the Safari Rally back in the world championship. The world championship is supposed to cover all continents."
Criticizing the current FIA leadership's neglect of Africa, the former world rally champion stated: “The FIA president should be a servant of all members of the family and cater for everybody’s specific needs whether black, white or yellow. Poor or rich."
Vatanen is currently in Uganda canvassing support with his vice-presidential nominee Jack Wavamunno.

Vatanen rules!
We need to push Ari all the way to the top for FIA Presidency!!
Perhaps if Vatanen wants to run an African rally to get more support for the election, he should put his hand in his own pocket like others do and use some of the money from his failed Euro trough feeding.
It would be the firdt thing that he has ever run of course, so he should first ask Jean Todt for advice.
Others might spend a little time finding out just what the FIA is and what it does.
@Autogyro>The FIA is a mess and it does little good at this point. Electing Jean todt will keep things as they are. Its time to consider the fans, the sport and the message it sends. At present the WRC has been let rot to a shell of its former self and F1 is so riddled with scandal it is an embarassment. Thats what the FIA has done under the present management system. F1 is screwed as long as King Bernie is alive but atleast Ari can lead the WRC on to the right direction. The Safari rally may be expensive for teams but it is incredible for the sport and the fans.
Many hard core Kenya Safari Rally Fans will be backing Ari Vatenen to bring the Safari Rally back to WRC. He knows on first hand experiance, that there is no other rally in the world that comes anywhere close to the Safari Rally.
It is important for the sport to keep the Safari going on.
Go on Ari, we are with you.
