Ari Vatanen has hinted that Friday's FIA election was by no means free or fair.
Up against Max Mosley-endorsed Jean Todt, Vatanen lost by 49 votes to 135 with 12 abstentions/invalid votes.
It was a crushing defeat for the Finn, who promised change, a new start and a move away from the Mosley-era that had ruled for 16 years.
Vatanen has hinted that pressure was put on the delegates to vote for Todt.
"I did not expect that such a vast majority would vote for Jean Todt," the former World Rally Champion told The Times. "I thought that more people would vote for me but apparently the delegates felt the pressure.
"It's very hard to renew this regime. I hope that the FIA will become more democratic but so far it is just wishful thinking."
