Ari Vatanen believes his election as FIA president would be a "mini-revolution" comparable to Jenson Button's unexpected Formula One championship win.
"They [Brawn GP] were the underdog at the beginning of the year and they became champions," Vatanen said. "This phenomenon is now happening in the FIA."
The former MEP has previously likened his campaign to that of President Barack Obama by promising change.
Vatanen explained to The Associated Press: "You could call it a mini-revolution - back to the basics and that the universal fundamentals be respected again. We must put our house into order."
The Finnish FIA presidential candidate has called on FIA member clubs to embrace his ideas of unity and increased transparency and accountability of the organisation.
"The world does not revolve around the FIA," said Vatanen, who was at FIA headquarters on Tuesday to meet with Todt and Mosley to go over the election procedures. "It is a possibility for the the [member] clubs to change the direction of the FIA and to return the power back to themselves. Power belongs to the clubs, power does not belong to Paris. Paris has to be a servant of the clubs not the other way around. This historical opportunity is there for the clubs.
"I have played an open game from the start with nothing hidden," Vatanen added.
