Peter van Merksteijn, team owner of Van Merksteijn Motorsport  and this year winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Porsche RS Spyder, will participate in the Dakar 2009 as part of the official factory team BMW X-Raid. Peter will be a new BMW X3CC on January 3 at the start in Buenos Aires where the rally 2 weeks later will end after a journey of nearly 10.000km by Argentina and Chile. 

Peter van Merksteijn is added as the third rider to join teammates Nasser Al-Attiyah and Guerlain Chicherit to arrive for the official BMW factory team, X-Raid, in which the monster rally for the first time will take place on the South American continent. Peter will drive a BMW X3CC which is built according to the latest specifications including an improved brake system and a more favorable weight distribution compared with the 2008 model X-Raid during this year's performance as well. The late entry of Peter van Merkteijn Brand in the Dakar 2009 is made possible by Gerard Seesing of Reiger Suspension following the successful test session that X-Raid has held in the private field test of Van Steijn Brand Motorsport in the German Fürstenau.

Eddy Chevaillier, the navigator of Peter van Merkteijn  in the BMW X3CC. Eddy has twice before taken part in the Dakar Rally when the event was verreden in the African desert as part of the team Stacey in a MAN truck and this team has this year won the Trans-Siberia Rally. The Belgian navigator during the year is a team with the son of Peter, Peter van Merksteijn Jr., where together they participate in the World Rally in a Ford Focus WRC 07 of of Van Merksteijn Motorsport. 

For the start of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires will X-Raid further testing Fürstenau where Peter van Merksteijn will have an opportunity to become acquainted with the BMW X3CC before being shipped to Argentina where it will join the rest of the Participants field for the start of the rally in January.
