Erik van Loon and Harmen Scholtalbers will start on June 20th in the Vechtdal Rallysprint in Hardenberg, The Netherlands, with a Ford Focus RS 06 WRC run by Van Merksteijn Motorsport. The couple will trade their trusted Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X in for a modern WRC car for 6 special stages in Overijssel as a testing event.

After achieving an outstanding 2nd position in group N during the last ELE Rally Erik van Loon, director of Van Loon Best bv, has decided to join forces with Van Merksteijn Motorsport and to test the Ford Focus WRC in a true rally environment and choose the Vechtdal Rallysprint for this purpose. It will be a whole new experience for Van Loon as the torque of the engine and the enormous braking force of the WRC will make a huge difference with the Mitsubishi Evo X.

Prior to the start of the Vechtdal Rallysprint on Saturday there will be an extensive testing session with Van Loon in the Focus WRC on the testing range of Van Merksteijn Motorsport in the German village of Fürstenau. It will be the first time that the rally driver and Dakar rider will get behind the wheel of a modern WRC rally car.

The Vechtdal Rallysprint will be held on June 20th around the town of Hardenberg in The Netherlands. The start of the event is at 13:30 after which the cars will have to complete two runs of 3 special stages each with a total length of 64km. halfway through the afternoon the cars will return to the Hardenberg for the service and around 17:30 the first car will drive over the finish on the parking lot next to the Evenementenhal Hardenberg.
