Sebastien Ogier has retired from the Monte Carlo Rally.
He was in second place overall heading to the penultimate stage of the event when he stopped. His Peugeot 207 Super 2000 suffered a broken alternatator pulley shaft and went no further.
Ogier won the event last year and was challenging Mikko Hirvonen for a second successive victory.

Carlos Sainz holds onto lead, but Nasser Al-Attiyah keeps pressure on going into final stage of the Dakar Rally.

 
Kris Meeke sets another fastest time, his third of the day. Hanninen goes off, losing 52s and slips to 4th as Kresta moves up to 3rd, 4s ahead of the Finn. Novikov retires before start of stage with mechanical problems. Rossetti punctures and drops from 6th to 10th. Kopecky on course for famous victory with two stages remaining.
