1982 World Rally Championship videos: Walter Rohrl becomes first person to win the title twice

Walter Rohrl became the first person, in 1982, to win the World Rally Championship for a second time.

Driving the Rothmans Opel Ascona 400 Rohrl found himself embroiled in a bitter battle with Audi quattro queen Michele Mouton which the media hyped up to the max.

Rallye Monte Carlo 1983, Walter wins on his debut for Lancia

The 1983 Monte witnessed the first win for the 037 since it was introduced in 1982. Rohrl lead a Lancia 1-2 and was never threatened (won by nearly 7mins) by his team mate Markku Alen. Blomqvist was 3rd and Mikkola 4th for Audi but never challenged the Lancia’s on what was principally a bone dry event.
