Max Mosley committed to safer World Rally Cars after Latvala Portugal crash

FIA president Max Mosley has stated to wrc.com that he is committed to making World Rally Cars safer following Jari-Matti Latvala’s huge crash in Portugal where he rolled 17 times down a hillside.

Mosley believes that rally car safety is a constant on-going process and feels the research will also influence the development of safety systems on road cars.

Jari Matti Latvala has revealed to autosport.com that he thought he was going to die in the huge accident on SS4 of Rally Portugal.
 
Latvala rolled the car an estimated 17 times for 150 yards down a cliff, on a section of road he had originally marked as a double

Video footage of Jari-Matti Latvala’s spectacular roll in the BP Abu Dhabi Ford WRT Focus WRC, on SS4 Rally Portugal.
 
The car appears to roll at least twenty times down a ravine, thankfully both crew members were uninjured.
