Manfred Stohl has renewed calls for the FIA to approve his CNG (compressed natural gas) powered Mitsubishi Evo 9 for global competition use, according to Mototrsport News.

The car, developed by his Stohl Racing outfit, took its first victory on the Waldviertel Rallye last weekend with Manfred behind the wheel.

Stohl wants to use the car in the PWRC next year but the FIA has so far rejected his requests to permit the car to compete on international events.

Stohl commented to MN:

We have given them all the documentation they have asked for but still they say no. We have even gone to Mitsubishi to see if they could help with the homologation process and they said yes but still there is nothing from the FIA about the car.

It is frustrating because we know this car is good and we would like to try it against traditionally fuelled cars."

Stohl can use the car in the Austrian championship because that series is run under less restrictive national regulations.

There has still been no further mention if Stohl will drive in the Van Merksteijn Motorsport M2 team next year in a Ford Focus WRC 07, following speculation that he might fill in for Peter Sr on a number of WRC events in 2009.

Meanwhile, Franz Wittmann Jr will run a Stohl Racing Evo 9 next year on eight rounds of the IRC, the aim is to gain competitive international experience and to finish in the top eight of the series.
