The Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Rally Team has confirmed that it will contest the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship, according to crash.net.
A spokesman for the Stobart team commented to crash.net:
A Stobart team was registered on Monday as we felt it was important to demonstrate our commitment and confidence in the championship."
Matthew Wilson is the only driver so far confirmed for the squad as he starts his fourth year contesting the WRC in the Stobart team.
A number of other drivers are said to be in the frame to drive for the team in '09 with Gigi Galli (who states he has secured sponsorship for a partial programme but is trying to secure funds for a full season), Francois Duval and Henning Solberg amongst the favourites to land a seat. All three drove for the team at some stage in 2008.

I don’t wish to taKe anything away from Matthew Wilson he is a great driver & I would love another English man to take the title, but to be fare I think he could dominate National Championships possibly the British but the WRC is a different kettle of fish. If the Stobart team want to win rallies outright then for haven sake put Francios Duval & Pettor Solberg in there cars & they will win rallies. Francios is one of the only drivers that could take a fight straight to Loeb on Tarmac, & when it comes to Gravel in a competitive car Pettor has still got the speed. All he needs are some wins or good finishes to boost his moral.
