Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship Hankook SRC: Rally Training Day spotlights young talent

RALLY TRAINING DAY SPOTLIGHTS YOUNG TALENT

Subaru rally boss George Donaldson will be on hand to assess Scotland's up and coming young drivers at the third Junior training day organised by the Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship on Saturday, July 25th.

Team values and the relationship between driver and co-driver will be the key focus of the hands-on day of activities at the Forrest Estate, near St John's Town of Dalry, in Dumfries and Galloway.

As well as an assessment of driving skills, there will be a co-driving module led by top Scottish navigator, Dave Robson, and a session on rally car preparation by one of the UK's leading exponents, Dom Buckley.

Bill Sturrock of Scotmaps will also be giving instruction on reading route notes.

The training day is part of a ground-breaking scheme launched by the Hankook series to nurture and develop Scotland's young rallying talent.

Of the record 208 competitor registrations to the SRC this season, 71 are juniors, 32 of whom are drivers.

Championship chairman Campbell Roy said the aim of the Forrest Estate programme was to build on the success of the two previous training days - the first at Stirling University, in April, where the emphasis was on the mental and physical skills needed to compete at the top level, followed by a session on tyre technology, scrutineering requirements and sponsorship at Crossford in May.

"This is really a great opportunity for our Juniors to learn more about the sport from people with vast experience at national and international level", said Mr Roy: "They will learn techniques which can help them improve their performance over the second half of the 2009 season and beyond".

Mr Roy added that the SRC Management Committee had been greatly encouraged by the numbers regularly taking part in the Championship this year. "Over the first five rounds, the average entry stands at around 127 crews per event - which is absolutely fantastic. It not only creates a great atmosphere and level of competition but engenders a real community spirit of which we are very proud".

The sixth round round of the SRC is the Gleaner Oil & Gas Speyside Stages Rally in Elgin on August 8th.
