Petter Solberg spent two days gravel testing in Spain this week in the Subaru S14 WRC.

Solberg declared himself happy, after the test, with the new Ohlins suspension technology and also this week said he would stay with Subaru for 2009 ending much speculation.

The test was carried out in mainly wet conditions, according to www.wrcisfree.com, which should help for the next two rounds in Japan and GB where it should rain for some period during both events.

Petter commented about his commitment to Subaru:

"I will win again with Subaru. That's all. The French newspapers reported this weekend that I wanted to break the contract. This is not true. I will. The car is better now. We have managed to correct a lot. I worked hard this weekend with engineers. I can not remember the last time I tested it myself. The team hopes that I relax and I recharge the batteries between races, while I personally would like to test myself. "

Meanwhile, Pentti Airikkala has been critical of the new Subaru S14. In an interview on crash.net he said the location of the engine (amongst other things) in the new Subaru should be further back.

Airikkala stated to crash.net:

Subaru is dead. It is dead. The problem is the same as Audi had - and still has. The engine is in the wrong position.

It is too far forward relative to the front axle and unless they change the engine location they are not going to do very well.

I have driven all of these cars and having too much weight in the front makes the car understeer. It doesn't change direction as quickly as other WRC cars where the engine is less on the top of the front axle. There is a big difference. Subaru is saying it is great because the engine is so low. But I don't buy it."
