PG Andersson won the Sigdalsrally 2009 (first round of the Norwegian rally championship) yesterday driving the Bernard Kongsrud Skoda Fabia WRC.

Pre-event favourite Mads Ostberg, who was debuting his Subaru S14 WRC, initially led and had established a 41.5s lead over Andersson after two stages. On the long third stage though, Ostberg made contact with a snow bank, damaging the radiator. He decided to retire a few miles later to prevent causing damage to the engine.

Anders Grondal, who has just recently recovered from an operation for appendicitis, was second fastest on SS1 but retired his Subaru S10 on SS2 after sliding off the road and damaging the rear of the car.

Andersson commented on his rally:

It's been a fantastic day for us. We had a few problems along the way. First, I was able to choke the engine at the start of the first stage, and then it stopped for us on the third stage because of a short-circuit. But we did make it further and to the finish."

Martin Stenshorne claimed second overall and first in Group N in an Evo 9 as Andreas Mikkelsen came in third and top Subaru-Cup car in the Impreza N14.

Winner Andersson set four fastest times on the six stage event. He hopes to drive the Skoda again on the next round, the Hadeland Rally, and also Rally Norway but nothing is confirmed yet.
