Sebastien Loeb competed in two races of the Porsche Carrera Cup in southern France at the weekend.

Loeb started well on Saturday, qualifying for the first race in 12th place. He was up to eighth at the end of the first lap in the rain but went off on the second lap.

Loeb commented:

I was faster than the other drivers in the wet and a bit less careful too. At the end of one of the longer straights I’d overtaken the car in front, and a few others, but I missed my braking point and went off.”

Loeb spun off and when he got going again he was last and in 22nd place. “I was a little angry with myself, but from that point on I really started to enjoy my driving,” he said. “The car was perfect and I learned a lot.”  Loeb came back after his off to overtake 15 cars in 20 laps to finish seventh.

On Sunday in the second race Loeb was hit by another car on the first corner. “I must say I was hungry for a good result today but somebody hit my left hand rear wheel as I was going into the turn,” he explained. “The impact wasn’t too violent but it was enough the burst the tyre.”

Loeb got his car back to the pits but decided to retire from the race. “Why obstruct the other drivers who are fighting for the championship to go and seek a result which would not satisfy me?” he said. “It is frustrating because I would have liked to see what that what I could have done on a dry circuit. But that, as they say, is racing!”

Loeb said he would like to do another race sometime:

I really enjoyed it, and I’m very grateful to all the people who made it possible.

This type of sprint racing is a new exercise for me and I’ve definitely come away having learned a few new things this weekend.”
