The concept Megane
Renault could enter the WRC in 2010, according to Motorsport News, with their new 3 door Megane. The company have apparently carried out a feasibility with a view to contesting next year's IRC with a possible S2000 car, then upgrading the car with the add on kit to become a WRCar for the 2010 WRC.
The new technical regulations, which were agreed in principle by the WMSC yesterday, seem to have been an influence for Renault to consider such a move. Renault Sport have been heavily involved in developing the R3 Clio and have employed some key people lately, such as former Peugeot Sport S2000 figurehead Martin Biju-Duval.
This would be Renault's first serious assault at top level rallying as mainly concentrated on class sucess in the past as well as circuit racing being a priority within the company. It would also be Renault's first attempt at 4WD rallying.
In other Renault rally news, Ulsterman Kris Meeke is to drive for Renault Sport in Rally Russia, he will pilot a Clio R3 run by the Italian Munaretto satellite team. Renault were apparently impressed by Meeke's drive on the Rally of the Lakes in a S1600 Clio where he finished 5th after a very impressive drive against WRCar opposition. Guy Wilks will also be in Russia driving a Civic R3, so it should be a fascinating contest.
Could Reggie return with this?
