Rally van Haspengouw 2008 Results: Hubert Deferm wins as Melissa Debackere takes the lead in the Belgian Rally Championship

Hubert Deferm won the two day Haspengouw Rally at the age of 56 in his Subaru S10 WRC. Local hero Bob Colsoul took second in his Evo 8 as many of the frontrunners retired from the rally.
Melissa Debackere was third in her Crack sponsored Corolla WRC despite a fifty second road penalty on day two which ruled her out of second place. It now means she has overhauled Patrick Snijers to take the lead in the BRC with one round remaining.
Patrick Snijers was an early casualty in his Porsche GT3 as he retired on the second stage. Another, even earlier, retirement was that of Bernd Casier in the RGRS Polo S2000 which blew a brand new engine after 2kms into the first stage. Tour of Flanders winner Paul Lietaer retired his Subaru WRC at the end of day one with mechanical problems.
The final round of the Belgian championship is the Condroz Rally which takes place on the 8-9th November with three drivers in with a chance of the title, Debackere, Deferm and Snijers.
