Guy Wilks continued to trade blows with Kris Meeke this afternoon, on the second loop of stages in the 2009 RACMSA Rally of Scotland. Wilks was clearly settling in well to his Skoda UK-supported Fabia S2000, as he took his second stage win of the event on the fearsome Drummond Hill test.

Wilks set about the afternoon with one objective in mind; to get through the treacherous conditions and bring his Skoda back to parc ferme in Stirling this evening intact. He was second fastest on the fifth stage of the event, as he negotiated his way around the numerous rocks in the road, pulled up by preceding cars.

However, he upped his game on the following, the Drummond Hill stage, to reclaim almost six seconds from Meeke. As he headed back towards Blair Castle for the second of the day’s service halts, he was a tantalising 5.6 seconds behind the IRC champion overall.

Commenting after the second loop of stages, Wilks said: “It was a very tricky afternoon. There were some really big rocks in the road on the first of the two stages and I had to drive around them, which made it very difficult to get into a rhythm.

“But the second of the two was much better – we had a really good run. We’re not thinking about the stage times at the moment – if they come, then that’s great but the main aim is to get through the day.”

The crews face one more stage before heading to Stirling for the overnight halt. This is a second run through the Craigvinean stage but this time, in the dark.
