Flying through the 7.6km Fairy Knowe stage, Guy Wilks took a bigger bite from Kris Meeke’s lead after the rally leader erred on the side of caution.
With heavy rain falling and having spun on the previous stage, Meeke took a solid run in his Peugeot and left the fireworks to Wilks’s Skoda. Alister McRae still holds his third place with both hands after another strong stage in the Proton, despite the wet and slippery conditions.
Meanwhile Jonathan Greer pulled out his advantage over David Bogie in the all-Ralliart battle for fourth when his Pirelli tyres proved more effective than the Hankook-shod car of the Scottish rally champion.
